The text decoder receives characters, not an image, so it cannot inspect a plate's background, lettering, reflectivity or physical construction. Do not infer a plate colour from a code lookup result.
Check the exact vehicle category
A useful colour reference must tie each example to a current rule and the correct vehicle category. This page does not yet contain a reviewed colour table. For a compliance question, obtain the relevant government rule before drawing a conclusion.
The official clarification
MoRTH explained in July 2020 that S.O. 2339(E) clarified the colour assignments for different vehicle classes. The press release does not supply the complete table. We have therefore not reconstructed current colour rules from older, inconsistent state pages.
